Monthly Key Word Challenge 2018

Avevo perso di vista questa sfida dopo che era cambiato l'host, ma quest'anno voglio riprovarla.
Ospitata da "My reader's block".

Your task is to read at least one book each month whose title includes one or more of the key words for that month.
GUIDELINES
* The title you choose can be a variation on one of the key words. For example- your title could include the word 'icicle' or 'icing' even though the key word is 'ice.'
*Key words can be tweaked. For example- You could read a book with "Bowler" or "Bonnet" for the key word 'Hat' and that would be just fine. If the key word is 'Family' then your title could include the word 'Sister' or 'Father.'If the key word is 'Food' then your title could include the word 'Cake.'

What’s In A Name 2018

Ci riprovo... sfida ospitata da "The worm hole".

The challenge runs from January to December. During this time you choose a book to read from each of the following categories. (Examples of books you could choose are in brackets – translations and other languages most definitely count!):
- The word ‘the’ used twice (The Secret By The Lake; The End Of The Day, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time)
- A fruit or vegetable (The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society; The Particular Sadness Of Lemon Cake)
- A shape (The Ninth Circle, The Square Root Of Summer, Circle Of Friends)
- A title that begins with Z – can be after ‘The’ or ‘A’ (Zen In The Art Of Writing; The Zookeeper’s Wife, Zelda)
- A nationality (Anna And The French Kiss; How To Be A Kosovan Bride; Norwegian Wood)
- A season (White Truffles In Winter; The Spring Of Kasper Meier; The Summer Queen; Before I Fall; The Autumn Throne)

As usual I’ve tried to include some easy categories and some not so. Remember the titles I’ve given here are only examples, you can by all means use them if you want to but it’s not necessary. There are plenty of other books that will fit the categories and you may have some in mind already or even some on your shelves you can read.

Back to the Classics 2018

Sfida ospitata da "Books and chocolate".
The challenge will be exactly the same as last year, 12 classic books, but with slightly different categories. You do not have to read all 12 books to participate in this challenge!
Complete six categories, and you get one entry in the drawing
Complete nine categories, and you get two entries in the drawing
Complete all twelve categories, and you get three entries in the drawing

And here are the categories for the 2018 Back to the Classics Challenge:

1.  A 19th century classic - any book published between 1800 and 1899.

2.  A 20th century classic - any book published between 1900 and 1968. Just like last year, all books MUST have been published at least 50 years ago to qualify. The only exception is books written at least 50 years ago, but published later, such as posthumous publications.

3.  A classic by a woman author.

4.  A classic in translation.  Any book originally written published in a language other than your native language. Feel free to read the book in your language or the original language. (You can also read books in translation for any of the other categories). Modern translations are acceptable as long as the original work fits the guidelines for publications as explained in the challenge rules.

5. A children's classic. Indulge your inner child and read that classic that you somehow missed years ago. Short stories are fine, but it must be a complete volume. Young adult and picture books don't count!

6.  A classic crime story, fiction or non-fiction. This can be a true crime story, mystery, detective novel, spy novel, etc., as long as a crime is an integral part of the story and it was published at least 50 years ago. Examples include The 39 Steps, Strangers on a Train, In Cold Blood, The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, etc.  The Haycraft-Queen Cornerstones list is an excellent source for suggestions.

7. A classic travel or journey narrative, fiction or non-fiction. The journey itself must be the major plot point -- not just the destination. Good examples include The Hobbit, Around the World in 80 Days, Unbeaten Tracks in Japan, Kon-Tiki, Travels with Charley, etc.

8. A classic with a single-word title. No articles please! Proper names are fine -- Emma, Germinal, Middlemarch, Kidnapped, etc.

9. A classic with a color in the title. The Woman in White; Anne of Green Gables; The Red and the Black, and so on. (Silver, gold, etc. are acceptable. Basically, if it's a color in a Crayola box of crayons, it's fine!)

10. A classic by an author that's new to you. Choose an author you've never read before.

11. A classic that scares you. Is there a classic you've been putting off forever? A really long book which intimidates you because of its sheer length? Now's the time to read it, and hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised!

12. Re-read a favorite classic. Like me, you probably have a lot of favorites -- choose one and read it again, then tell us why you love it so much.

All books must be read in 2018.
All books must have been written at least 50 years ago; therefore, books must have been written by 1968 to qualify for this challenge. The ONLY exceptions are books published posthumously.
Recent translations of classics are acceptable.
E-books and audiobooks are eligible! You may also count books that you read for other challenges.
Books may NOT cross over within this challenge. You must read a different book for EACH category, or it doesn't count.
Multiple books by the same author are also acceptable.
Children's classics are acceptable, but please, no more than 3 total for the challenge; and please, no picture books.
Single short stories and short poems do not count, but you may use full-length narrative poems like The Odyssey and short story collections like The Canterbury Tales, as long as it is the entire book.

2018 Cruisin' Thru The Cozies Reading Challenge

Sfida ospitata da Socrate's book review. Quest'anno ci sono due modalità di partecipazione: una, leggendo 10 cozy mistery a proprio piacimento; l'altra, leggendo un libro per ognuna delle categorie indicate. (10 libri è il primo livello; il secondo livello contempla 20 libri, il terzo 30, ecc.)

This year's cozy mystery reading challenge has two ways to participate and you can choose whichever suits you the best:

A) Read only cozy mysteries of your choice.

Or

B) Read one book from these sub-genres:

- One from culinary (anything dealing with food:  restaurants, baked goods, etc.)
- One from animal related (cats, dogs, birds, etc.)
- One from craft related (any kind of hobbies - knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, etc.)
- One from paranormal (witches, vampires, etc.)

- One from cozy mysteries based outside the US (example:  Belinda Lawrence series (British))

- One career-based cozy mystery (housekeeping, wedding planner, etc.)

- One holiday based (set during any holiday - Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentines, etc.)

- One travel mystery (character could be on a cruise, touring another area, etc.)

- One historical mystery (any mystery not set in the present)
- One is your choice!  (freebie!)

The challenge runs from January 1, 2018 and ends December 31, 2018.

You don't have to choose your books in advance. If you do, you can change your list at any time during the year. Books can overlap with other challenges.

Books can be in any format - paper, audio, ebooks...it all counts!

2018 What An Animal Reading Challenge

Anche quest'anno partecipo alla sfida ospitata da Socrate's book review

The challenge will begin on January 1, 2018 and end on December 31, 2018.

Any book read for this challenge has to have an animal that plays a major role in the book (which could be fiction or non-fiction.) It also counts if a main character is (or turns into) an animal (define that however you'd like).

In the past, books would qualify if an animal is in the title or on the cover, but that alone no longer qualifies. This challenge is for books related to animals and just because they are in the title or on the cover, doesn't mean it's about an animal.

These are the levels.

Level 1 - Read 6 books --> completed 29/09/2018

Level 2 - Read 7-12

Level 3 - Read 13-20

Level 4 - Read 21 or more

The animal can be any type of animal (real or fictitious)--dog, cat, monkey, wolf, snake, insect, hedgehog, aardvark...dragon, mermaid, centaur, vampire, werewolf...you get the idea...

Challenge runs from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

Books can be fiction or nonfiction.

Books can be in any format of your choice (print, audio, ebooks)
